What are other ways the web can help?

If there are more and more web 2.0 tools out there to use, how will our society shift into a more conservative mode? Will we stop using desk/paper calendars? Will we stop using paper/written correspondence? What issues do you see arising from this change to new technology? Do you find this valuable?
